by the way, not to contradict dravu, but if you were to do such an overhaul as to upgrade processor to quad core and a brand new graphics card, a 600 or 650 watt PSU really -couldn't- hurt. and if you wanted to make a one time long time investment, 750 would be optimal and last you forever.

It never hurts, but depends on your budget. A good 650w+ power supply will cost you around $100 usually with 750w ones creeping up to around $120 - $150. Only thing I have to say about getting a new power supply is try to get a modular one. My last buy was a modular one and it spoils you. :icon_razz:

Yeah, I wish I had gotten one too, but I was building from scratch when I got mine and was already overspending what I had intended to spend as it was, so I couldn't justify another big jump in cost for a modular supply. Besides, I have a big case this time around, so cable management is pretty easy this time.

If ur going amd go with the x3 720.. its the only dominate worthy of money/performance ratio.. if you go the 9xx route go with the i5 intel.. because that extra 20-40 dollars over the 9xx series for the cpu will be your best bet. 940/955 have little performance difference over the 720.. and are 60-70 dollars more expensive. :icon_e_biggrin:

Ya I'm waffling between the x4 and x3 at the moment...I can get the x4 940 for $166 right now or an x3 720 for $135 - for the price difference I think I'm going to go with the extra core, just 'cause. :icon_dancedance:

Don't want to go Intel right now because then I'd have to get a new motherboard as well.

Need to order soon so I can tack a copy of Windows 7 OEM on to the order, I'm running the RC and it's going to run out soon!

Thanks for the tips guys.

Just remember that the 940 is AM2 and the 720 is AM3. I'd see how much a X4 945 is and go with a completely AM3 build. That way you'll have access to the CPUs down the road (AMD is very good about backwards-compatibility)

Ya except if I go with AM3 don't I have to upgrade RAM too?

Yeah. You'd have to get DDR3 ram. If you already have the other stuff for an AM2 setup, then just continue with that. :3
